Discussions will potentially include plans for trilateral negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
The comments come after Trump met with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday evening, where the two leaders discussed the ongoing conflict that began in 2022. Both Trump and Putin said the talks were productive.
In a joint press conference with Putin, Trump said, “We agreed on many points, but there were a couple of big ones that we haven’t quite gotten there, but we’ve made some headway.” He added at the time, “So there’s no deal until there’s a deal. I will call up NATO in a little while, I will call up the various people that I think are appropriate, and, of course, call up President Zelensky and tell them about today’s meeting. It’s ultimately up to them.”
Putin described the Anchorage discussions as laying the groundwork for both a resolution to the Ukrainian conflict and a broader improvement in US-Russia relations. “Today’s agreements will be the starting point, not only for the solution of the Ukrainian issue, but also will help us bring back business-like and pragmatic relations between Russia and [the] US,” he said.
In a subsequent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump said he believes Putin is not only open to peace but eager to see it achieved.
