Trump to attend wake for fallen NYPD officer while Biden heads to NYC for glitzy, star-studded fundraiser

President Donald Trump was invited to and will attend the wake of slain New York Police Department Officer Jonathan Diller on Thursday. President Joe Biden will be attending a fundraiser the same day in the city with Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.  

“President Trump is moved by the invitation to join NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller’s family and colleagues as they deal with his senseless and tragic death,” Trump spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, said in response to an invitation to the wake on Thursday.  

Biden on the other hand will be attending a fundraiser on Thursday with Bill Clinton and Obama that is expected to raise around $25 million. The fundraiser will take place at NYC's Radio City Music Hall and will be hosted by actress Mindy Kaling. Performances by Queen Latifah, Lizzo, and Ben Platt will also be included as part of the event and will end with a discussion between Biden, Clinton, and Obama moderated by Stephen Colbert. 

The Biden reelect campaign has branded the fundraiser to take place as the "most successful political fundraiser in American history." 

Biden-Harris campaign co-chair said of the event, "Every dollar we're raising is going to reach the voters who will decide this election — communicating the President's historic record, his vision for the future and laying plain the stakes of this election." 

The NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) union told Democrat politicians in New York to "stay home" and not attend the wake.  

“Adrienne Adams, Jumaane Williams and their cohorts should stay home. They detest cops and have no appreciation for what they do. They should stay home and not pretend they are grieving. They have caused enough heartbreak and destruction,” SBA president Vincent Vallelong told the New York Post.  

"They are as morally responsible for PO Diller’s death as the career criminal who pulled the trigger," the union wrote in a letter. “The Council members who are vehemently and inexplicably against public safety are responsible for the carnage in the streets and the heartbreak brought about by PO Diller’s completely avoidable death." 

Officer Diller was shot and killed in Queens at a routine traffic stop by a career criminal who had 21 prior arrests. He leaves behind his wife and 1-year-old son.
