Trump vows to crush soft-on-crime policies, will make Democrat-run cities safe following murder of Iryna Zarutska

"We have proven that it can be done, because we did it right here in DC, in District of Columbia. The capital of America was a bloodthirsty, horrible, dangerous place, one of the worst."

President Donald Trump condemned Democrats and their criminal justice policies after the release of disturbing video footage showing the fatal stabbing of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte, North Carolina light rail train.

Trump pointed out that the killing is the consequence of “catch and release” practices in Democrat-run cities. “For far too long, Americans have been forced to put up with Democrat-run cities that set loose savage, bloodthirsty criminals to prey on innocent people,” he said during remarks this week. “We cannot allow a depraved criminal element of violent repeat offenders to continue spreading destruction and death throughout our country.”

"We have to respond with force and strength. We have to be vicious, just like they are. It's the only thing they understand. Twenty-four of the top 25 most dangerous cities in America are run by Democrat mayors. Fifty people were murdered in Chicago in recent weeks, with hundreds being shot. And it's time to stop this madness.

"The people of our country need to insist on protection, safety, law, and order. We have proven that it can be done, because we did it right here in DC, in District of Columbia. The capital of America was a bloodthirsty, horrible, dangerous place, one of the worst.

"And now it's a crime-free city, and we're going to keep it that way. It can be done. It can happen fast," Trump said in the video response.

The suspect in Zarutska’s murder, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr., was arrested after the August 22 attack. He has been charged with first-degree murder. Brown, who is homeless, has a criminal record stretching back more than a decade and had been arrested 14 times prior to the stabbing. In the newly released footage, Brown can be seen muttering, “I got that white girl” as he walked away from the wounded woman, her hands covered in blood.

Trump pointed out that Brown’s release after repeated arrests was the direct result of failed Democrat policies. “The perpetrator was a well known career criminal, who had been previously arrested and released on cashless bail in January, a total of 14 times,” Trump wrote on social media. “What the hell was he doing riding the train, and walking the streets? Criminals like this need to be locked up.”
