The 18-year-old is in stable condition after being taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was treated for the injuries.
Footage was posted by Boro Park Shomrim, a volunteer patrol in the city, where a group of males were chasing someone with machetes and what appeared to be other handheld weapons. The incident took place a little after 5 pm on Monday.
One of the suspects, donning a red hoodie, was seen with the machete, chasing after an individual. The armed teen was then joined by a group of others chasing after the one individual. The two teens with the machetes, 14 and 15, were arrested after stabbing an 18-year-old man in the back and slashing him across the hip in a dispute, police said.
The teens also allegedly threatened a 26-year-old man with the machetes at 45th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway. Both teens have been arrested and have been charged with gang assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and assault, per the New York Post.
Police, as well as Shomrim members, were able to catch the teens and detain them. “Thanks to their rapid action, a machete was recovered, and two teenagers were arrested," the Shomrim said of the incident. The 18-year-old is in stable condition after being taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was treated for the injuries.
The incident takes place in the backdrop of the mayoral race in New York City, where many in the NYPD say they will quit the force if socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani is elected mayor. Mamdani has previously called for the defunding of the police.

The teens were caught, but does it matter? Do they punish people for crimes in NYC?
