On Wednesday evening, the trustees of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) voted unanimously to make COVID-19 vaccines mandatory for all of the staff working in schools under their jurisdiction.

The vote was part of the regular proceedings of the board's Wednesday meetings, and is in line with other similar measures proposed city-wide.

According to local outlet City News Toronto, the trustees have agreed to develop measures which will "require all TDSB staff, trustees, and visitors to disclose and provide proof of vaccination status and to be fully vaccinated to help protect the health and safety of both staff and students," according to a statement released by board spokesperson Ryan Bird.

TDSB Chairperson Alexander Brown further stated:

"The data is clear — being fully vaccinated significantly reduces the risks of the most serious outcomes of COVID-19."

"This is an important step to ensure we are making our schools and workplaces as safe as possible for staff and students — particularly younger students who are not eligible to receive the vaccine."

The board also committed to writing a formal letter to the Medical Officers of Health of both Toronto and the province of Ontario, and also the Canadian Minister of Education. In the letter, they will formally recommend that COVID-19 vaccines be included in the list of compulsory vaccinations for students as well.

Surprisingly, a Toronto gentlemen's club previously has been the first business entity in the city to require a "vaccine passport" for entry.
