The alleged victim was a student at Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls high school in Hempstead where Maser taught.
Jason Maser, 22, was found dead around 10:30 pm Friday night, less than 24 hours after being charged with rape, committing a criminal sexual act, and endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to the Daily Mail, law enforcement revealed that Maser had jumped in front of a Long Island Rail Road train at the Woodbury Road crossing near Syosset, a town about 30 miles east of New York City, on Long Island. Investigators added that a suicide note was found, though its contents were not made public.
The alleged victim was a student at Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls high school in Hempstead where Maser taught. He also previously coached her at the B&B Volleyall Club. The alleged incidents were said to have taken place in his vehicle on February 7 and March 9, though it was nearly two weeks after second reported incident that he was arrested.
On March 21, officers apprehended him at his parents' house and took him into custody. He was charged the following morning and posted $75,000 bail.
Upon learning of his alleged actions, the school released a statement.
"Sacred Heart Academy is firmly committed to our students' safety and well-being," it read. "When Sacred Heart learned of the situation involving Jason Maser, Sacred Heart notified the appropriate authorities and offered all available resources to the family."
"In addition," it added, "Sacred Heart Academy took immediate steps to ensure that the coach had no further access to Sacred Heart's premises or any School activities. The coach is not currently employed by Sacred Heart Academy."
Maser was also suspended by USA Volleyball.Despite his death, the investigation into his alleged crimes is ongoing, with authorities urging any other potential victims to come forward.
