The front-runner Democratic candidate in the race for the open position of the attorney general of Washington State celebrated the endorsement of far-left journalists. These journalists, just days before, had celebrated the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump. Both Hannah Krieg and Ashley Nerbovig are listed on The Stranger’s “Election Control Board,” which endorsed Brown.

Former US Attorney Nick Brown posted on Tuesday that he was “excited” to receive the endorsement of Seattle's far-left outlet The Stranger. Just days before, two reporters for the Seattle outlet seemingly celebrated when a 20-year-old shooter almost killed the GOP nominee for president

Staff writer Ashley Nerbovig, who covers “policing, incarceration and courts” for the far-left outlet posted on X, “Make America aim again,” in reaction to the news that Trump had survived the shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday. Nervobig deleted the post, but screenshots went viral, and in response to the backlash, she deleted her account and shut down her profiles on other platforms.

Her colleague at The Stranger, writer Hannah Krieg, followed suit by criticizing Seattle’s Democratic mayor for praising the Secret Service and wishing the best for the former president.

After the assassination attempt, Democratic Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrel posted on X, “This act of political violence is disturbing and unacceptable in our country. Thank you to the Secret Service and all the first responders who quickly secured the scene. Our thoughts are with the former president and all the people who attended today’s rally.”

Krieg shared the tweet and posted, "Mayor Bruce Harrel swiftly comes to the defense of Trump, a failed insurrectionist touted by mainstream Democrats as an existential threat to Democracy.” She deleted the post and locked her account after receiving severe backlash on social media.

After the posts were deleted, The Stranger posted on X, “The Stranger condemns political violence in the strongest possible terms. Period.” As of Tuesday night, Nervobig’s writer’s profile has been deleted from the outlet. The Stranger did not respond when asked for comment on the controversy and the writer’s employment status.

According to Scott Greenstone, politics reporter for KUOW, the editor of The Stranger “tells me in an email that Ashley was suspended yesterday and reiterated that the stranger stands against political violence.”

Nerbovig, parted ways with a Montana NBC affiliate in 2022 after she was arrested on a felony burglary charge for breaking into her ex-boyfriend's house to try and steal a dog that the two had previously shared. The charges were later dismissed.

The two reporters have been at the forefront of pushing the far-left outlet’s radical agenda, which includes supporting political violence such as the deadly uprisings that rocked the Emerald City in 2020. The pair have also been at the forefront of covering and supporting anti-Israel and anti-American actions in the Seattle area, which included being spotted in January on the I-5 freeway in downtown Seattle when pro-Hamas activists blockaded the highway for 6 hours. Washington State Patrol had previously considered charging them along with other activists for being on the freeway.

Neither Brown nor The Stranger have responded to requests for comment. However, The Stranger began blocking accounts on X who shared screenshots of its writer's posts.

On Tuesday, Brown also released his first commercial, which demonized Trump and claimed he would protect “the right to choose,” even though abortion is codified into Washington state law.

The former US attorney and general counsel to Democratic Governor Inslee, a fierce critic of Trump added, “I’m not afraid to take on Donald Trump, or anyone who threatens who we are in Washington.”

The verbiage Brown used in his campaign ad against Trump was very similar to the far-left current Attorney General Bob Ferguson whom Brown hopes to replace. Ferguson, who is currently running for governor, has constantly demonized Trump, including calling him “an existential threat to our democracy, our American values, and reproductive freedom. I have experience taking him on and stopping his illegal, cruel and un-American policies.” While as attorney general, Ferguson pushed back against the former president's ban on illegal immigrants and refugees coming to the US from certain Middle East countries that had sworn to destroy America, including Iran. Ferguson also has deep ties to the anti-American group Council for American Islamic Relations and was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism trial in US history.

Brown said during a recent candidate forum, "AG Ferguson has set a standard and a legacy for each of us to build upon moving forward," despite the murder rate in Washington being up 96 percent during Ferguson’s tenure. The state also has the fewest police officers in the US, is number one in the country for burglary and auto theft, and is among the top in the US for fentanyl abuse and homelessness, all problems that exploded during Ferguson’s tenure. Ferguson previously said he wanted to decriminalize drugs.
