Radio show host Alex Jones on Friday urged his followers to "not blame Elon Musk" for not reinstating his Twitter account, telling his audience to instead support him on censorship-free sites and wait to see if the new Twitter owner can actually secure free speech on the platform.
The message was posted to Banned.video, where Jones and other affiliates of his Infowars brand host their shows, soon after Musk made the announcement that Jones wouldn't be coming back to Twitter.
Musk's comment came during a brief Twitter interaction. After asking users, "what should Twitter do next?" one user suggested that Alex Jones be unbanned, to which Musk simply replied, "No."
Musk made the comment on the same day that he unbanned Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, Kathy Griffin, and the conservative satire site The Babylon Bee. According to Musk, the decision on whether or not former president Donald Trump will be reinstated is still in the air.
In his response, Jones was actually sympathetic to Musk's cause, and listed out the entities working to sabotage the tech mogul's purported goals of turning Twitter into a free-speech platform.
"Elon Musk has the EU threatening him not to bring back Alex Jones and Donald Trump. He has DHS behind the scenes, with a bunch of moles inside his organization. There's a question right now, on whether Twitter will even be able to continue on to the future because [of] all of the sabotage," Jones said to his audience. "So, as I said in the last month with this build up, I want to see Twitter freed overall first and to see if Musk can even get control of it, before we talk about Donald Trump or Alex Jones being brought back."
The commentator went on to acknowledge the large base he's built outside of traditional social media platforms with his daily show and other anti-censorship platforms.
"But at the end of the day, that doesn't matter. I've built infowars.com. I've built our syndicated radio show and TV show that reaches tens of millions today. You've built it with your word of mouth, and we're not going to sit there and hope that Elon Musk can free twitter," he said.
"We've got Rumble. We've got Gab. We've got Gettr. We've got Telegram. We've got so many other great platforms, so we're gonna continue to energize those and promote those and get those out to the world," he continued, adding that "just because there's tyranny" at Twitter, Facebook, Google, and Apple, that "doesn't mean we can't build our own system."
Jones continued to defend Musk's decision, arguing that he can't come back to the platform with so many powerful bad actors going against Musk.
"I understand why Musk did this. He's got the ADL and the Democratic Party on him. He's got the EU on him, trying to shut him down right now. So don't put all your eggs in the Elon Musk basket, but support him trying to free up Twitter," he told his viewers.
"And don't blame Musk at the end of the day because he didn't bring me back. I'm the most controversial figure in the world, because I'm the most threatening of the New World Order. So don't expect him to bring me back [on] day one, when he has to first get control of the platform before he can even think about that… My answer is that's fine. Elon, just follow through on your promise to bring back some semblance of freedom to Twitter. Let's see if you can actually get that done."
In 2019, Jones's Twitter accounts were deleted, along with his Facebook accounts. Facebook told NBC News at the time that it was banning Jones's accounts because of his posts that go against Facebook's policies against hate speech and misinformation.
Jones was recently ordered to pay $965 million to Sandy Hook families, which Jones called a "political joke" and compared the amounts to "getting blood out of a stone." He was later ordered to pay an additional $473 million.
