A video has gone viral showing the moment that a FedEx worker fights with a barefoot man on a busy New York City subway car.

The video of the incident originally posted to Twitter in September received relatively little attention, but the clip was reposted on Monday and has since amassed more than 4.7 million views.

The original poster of the video called the fight "just another day in New York City" and said that the whole incident began with an incident involving the barefoot passenger's bike.

"Apparently the guy's bike knocked into the black guy, black guy told him to apologize, he didn't, fight started," the account said.

It is not certain exactly how the fight started, but one of the first things we see is the barefoot man fish-hooking the FedEx worker, a fighting move that has such potential to cause disfigurement that it's illegal to use in MMA fighting.

Following this, the two unidentified men throw punch after punch at each other, taking up a span of several feet on the subwar car. Eventually the FedEx worker gets the upper hand, mercilessly pummelling the barefoot man until he can eventually be seen lying on the ground attempting to recover from the beating.

The end of the video shows the FedEx worker gathering up his things from the seat as the subway doors open and passengers begin to crowd in.

Many of the reactions to the video on social media have revolved around the dangers of traveling on the subway today, with expressions of disbelief and horror at the state of the world.

"The train is a wild place lmao like what do you do ? you can't do shit until the next stop so you just have to stay, watch and be traumatized," one user said.

According to the New York City police department, crime on city transit is up 31 percent from last year. Robberies in particular have increased by more than 34 percent.

New York City mayor Eric Adams has been forced to take more action to curb violence. He told New Yorkers last month that crime safety was up to them and that "not having your iPods in – not focusing on the phone" was the solution to skyrocketing crime levels.
