WATCH: Clip from '60 Minutes' talks about 'shock and awe' to limit legal protests to Biden inauguration

A "60 minutes" segment showed a temporarily appointed high level official discussing how they made "shock and awe" arrests in order to put a chilling effect on legitimate protests during the Jan. 20 Biden inauguration.

"A high level prosecutor felt comfortable bragging on camera that the "shock and awe" arrests, which involve the use of dozens of masked gunmen and tanks, was designed to prevent lawful protests of Joe Biden’s inauguration."

"Federal judges won’t care."

The person in question talked about the "50-state manhunt" he undertook in January following the Capitol Riots of Jan. 6. He stated the following during the interview:

"After [Jan.] 6th, we had an inauguration on the 20th, so I wanted to ensure, and our office wanted to ensure, that there was 'shock and awe', that we could charge as many people as possible before the 20th."

"And it worked, because we saw through media posts that people were afraid to come back to DC, 'cause they were like, 'if we go there, we're going to get charged.'

"So, the first people we want after, I'm going to call the 'internet stars', right? The low-hanging fruit: the zip-tie guy, the rebel flag guy, the 'Camp Auschwitz' guy."

"We wanted to take out those individuals that essentially were thumbing their noses to the public for what they did."

In the end, over 100 arrests were made between Jan. 6 and Jan. 20 by the office.
