Two hikers who found themselves stranded on an ice floe in Georgian Bay after it detached from land were rescued by the Ontario Provincial Police on Sunday, CP24 reports.

The two hikers were exploring the area around Bruce Peninsula National Park when the ice sheet they were standing on began drifting from the shoreline.

Police were informed of the hikers' situation after they were spotted by a woman in the area, who decided to call the police. "There are some people out on the ice," the caller said. "I guess they walked out there and now there is a huge separation of water between them and the mainland and they need help. They better hurry. This is getting wider and wider as we speak."

The hikers could be seen on video sitting on the ice awaiting rescue.

"We were kind of panicking because the water came in so fast," one of the hikers said. "We didn’t know what to do so we were kind of looking around us and realized how fast it was filling in between the shore and us and then we knew we needed help."

The hikers were rescued by an OPP helicopter and were transported to Tobermory Airport. They did not sustain any injuries.
