WATCH: CBC's Ron MacLean fawns over Trudeau in cringeworthy clip

"You gave the most beautiful homage to [Pierre Trudeau], and what really strikes me is that’s 2000 and within eight years you’re a Member of Parliament and within a decade and a half you are the prime minister of this country."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau participated in a virtual conversation with the first black man to play in the NHL, Willie O'Ree, and students during the Canadian launch of "Social Justice & Racism Lessons from Willie O'Ree."

"Hockey brings Canadians together and there’s no place for racism or discrimination of any kind in Canada’s game... We need everyone, educators, coaches, parents, students and allies to play an active role to ensure that our game and our country are more inclusive," Trudeau said to the students in his opening statement.

Hockey Night In Canada's Ron MacLean, who was once a special guest at a Liberal Party fundraiser, introduced Trudeau at the event, wherein MacLean shared kind words with the prime minister and his father Pierre.

"You gave the most beautiful homage to [Pierre Trudeau], and what really strikes me is that’s 2000 and within eight years you’re a Member of Parliament and within a decade and a half you are the prime minister of this country. So you are cut from the same cloth."
