Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police and later booked for attempted murder following a chaotic police chase and shootout in Los Angeles, according to TMZ.
The incident unfolded Tuesday after California Highway Patrol and LAPD officers responded to a multi-vehicle hit-and-run on an LA freeway in the area of Eagle Rock. Three suspects reportedly fled the scene, with one abandoning his vehicle and escaping on foot by climbing over a freeway embankment and ending up on a residential road.
As officers searched the neighborhood and established barricades to block the streets, Lauren reportedly exited the couple’s home with a gun in hand and began shooting, apparently targeting the suspect.
Police say they ordered her multiple times to drop the weapon, but she ignored commands. She allegedly then pointed her gun at law enforcement, prompting officers to open fire. Lauren was struck in the shoulder and retreated back into the house.
Roughly 30 minutes later, Lauren and the family’s babysitter exited the residence and surrendered to authorities without further incident.
According to TMZ, law enforcement officials stated Lauren was transported to the hospital and later booked for attempted murder of a peace officer. LAPD confirmed that no officers or any members of the community were hurt during the shootout and added that Jillian was not involved in the hit-and-run from earlier.
The suspect she allegedly fired at was apprehended, while the other two remain at large. The investigation is ongoing.
