On Saturday, the 29th annual Dyke March in Manhattan ended in a celebration where dozens splashed in the Washington Square Park fountain topless.

The event, which returned to New York City for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, was described by organizers as a "protest march, not a parade," and a celebration of "beautiful and diverse Dyke lives," according to the New York Post. The march, which had the theme "Black Dyke Power," took place the day before the New York City annual Pride Parade.

According to the group's Facebook, "bisexual dykes, pansexual dykes, trans dykes, femme dykes, dykes who are unsure if they are dykes, dykes who will scream that they are dykes from the rooftops" were encouraged to attend the march. "If you think this might be you, it probably is and you should join us," the post continued.

Marchers sang as the group walked from Bryant Park down Fifth Avenue to Washington Square Park, pausing briefly on the route at 23rd Street, holding hands in the air, crossed in the shape of an X. The crowd also held a moment of silence in honor of black trans lives lost. According to the New York Post, the group doesn't seek city permits and police aren't invited, although some do show up every year. Marshals provide security at the event.
