Andrew Wolfe, one of the two National Guardsmen who were shot in Washington, DC the day before Thanksgiving, is starting to "look more like himself," according to the West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey. He gave the update on behalf of Wolfe's family.

"His parents report that his head wound is slowly healing and that he's beginning to ‘look more like himself,'" Morrisey said in the statement. "Overall, the family expects that Andy will be in acute care for another 2-3 weeks but have been optimistic about his progress," the Republican governor added. "We continue to ask all West Virginians and Americans for their prayers! They are making a difference!"

Morrisey was speaking at a vigil on Friday at Musselman High School in West Virginia, according to Fox News. When he was speaking about Wolfe, he added, "You are not alone. South Berkeley stands with you, and West Virginia and the whole country are praying for you."

Wolfe was critically injured after being shot in Washington, DC, alongside his colleague Sarah Beckstrom. Beckstrom died on Thanksgiving, and the perpetrator in the shooting has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who entered the US under the Biden administration.

Lakanwal, who has since been charged with the murder of Beckstrom and the shooting of Wolfe, worked with a CIA-backed Afghan unit in the war with the Taliban. Lakanwal has pleaded not guilty in the shooting that took place in DC.

Both Beckstrom and Wolfe had been assigned to security operations in the area when the gunman opened fire without warning in a targeted attack. The FBI is also investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism.
