“When border security experts explained to President Trump how illegal immigration empowers the cartels to control who and what enters our home, he listened and acted.”
The letter argued that Trump used border security methods that were both effective, only to see these measures “systematically dismantled” by the Biden-Harris administration, which immediately worked to soften border policies on illegal immigration. Those who signed the letter include the former director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Tom Homan and the former director of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Rodney Scott.
The officials noted that other issues are moot points if America forfeits its national security: “The single most important factor when evaluating the candidates should be ensuring the safety and security of the United States. Of the countless issues to consider, every one of them is dependent upon our national security. National security has many facets, but it does not exist without enforceable international borders. In this election, there is no need to speculate what each candidate might do. When reviewing their records you can see both candidates have very clear, but distinctly different track records.”
“President Trump respected the experience of career border security professionals and listened to our advice,” the letter added. “When border security experts explained to President Trump how illegal immigration empowers the cartels to control who and what enters our home, he listened and acted.”
“The Trump administration supported policies and programs that reduced illegal immigration, instilled integrity into our legal immigration system and ensured that the U.S. government was doing all we could to control who and what entered our homeland. The borders of the U.S. were never more secure than they were during the Trump administration,” the letter continued.
Among President Joe Biden’s first executive orders were plans to stop Trump’s construction of a wall on the southern border and to end his Remain in Mexico policy that prevented illegal immigrants caught at the border from being released on US soil as they awaited court dates. The result of these and other policies was the mass flow of millions of illegal immigrants into the US. Illegal border crossings for the last two years have been the worst two on record, according to data provided by CBP.
The letter said that the Biden-Harris administration has utterly failed to deliver basic border security for Americans and has surrendered the southern border to criminals and cartels.
“Under VP Harris’ watch, idealist political appointees with zero border security experience were empowered to implement disastrous and deadly border security policy for the United States,” the letter states. “The devastating results have handed complete control of our border to the cartels, provided them with astronomical record profits, ballooned legal immigration backlogs, and have left millions of illegal aliens in the country.”
“Assuming you care about border security as much as we do, the choice is clear. President Trump is the only candidate that we can trust to secure our nation’s borders," the retired officials added.
Although Harris has spoken about a need to improve border security, in a recent interview with Telemundo, Harris appeared to advocate for amnesty for illegal immigrants in the US. At his rallies, Trump has promised that violent illegal immigrants will be deported if he is reelected as president.
