Alec Baldwin compromised safety on Rust set, 'changed his story' after shooting Halyna Hutchins, cursed at crew: prosecutors

"To watch Mr. Baldwin’s conduct on the set of Rust is to witness a man who has absolutely no control of his own emotions and absolutely no concern for how his conduct affects those around him."

Alec Baldwin rushed the crew on the set of Rust in such a way that it led to safety concerns for crew members before the shooting. After the fatal shooting he reportedly "changed his story."

According to the Daily Mail, documents filed by prosecutors in the case revealed the poor behavior and that it contributed to "safety compromises" that allegedly led to the shooting of Halyna Hutchins in Oct. 2021.

The filing is in response to Baldwin's legal motion to throw out the involuntary manslaughter charges against him. He is scheduled to begin trial in July.

Baldwin, according to the filing, had "no control of his emotions on set" and was "inattentive" to the things happening during the firearms training. He was also "frequently screaming and cursing" prior to the shooting.

"To watch Mr. Baldwin’s conduct on the set of Rust is to witness a man who has absolutely no control of his own emotions and absolutely no concern for how his conduct affects those around him," the prosecutors wrote in the legal document. "Witnesses have testified that it was this exact conduct that contributed to safety compromises on set."

The prosecutors added that Baldwin "shamelessly lied" about the incident once it happened and changed his story.

At the time of the shooting in 2021, Baldwin was pointing the gun on the set of Rust at Hutchins during rehearsal for the shooting and the gun went off. Baldwin was indicted in January, 2022. He has placed blame on set armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed in the case.

Baldwin maintains that he pulled back the hammer on the gun and then it fired without him pulling the trigger. Independent testimony of gun experts have cast doubt on his claim, with gun experts examining the firearm and not finding it to have a faulty triggering mechanism.
