On Tuesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) claimed former President Donald Trump is trying to con the people of the Bronx into paying his legal fees, which is why he has decided to hold a rally in the South Bronx on Thursday. AOC represents part of the Bronx in her service to the people of New York.
She then said the quiet part out loud and stated that Trump has been unable to leave New York City's five boroughs because he has been bound by a "legal version of an ankle monitor." Trump has said that keeping him off the campaign trail has been a big motive in the criminal cases brought against him. Trump has been ordered to attend every day of Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's criminal case against him in a New York City court. Trump is free to travel but is bound by the constraints of those court dates.
"Oh, he's broke, Donald Trump is broke. He needs money," squad member AOC told reporters. "He's hosting a rally to try to con people and try to fleece them out of every dollar that they have to fund his own legal fees."
"The man practically has the legal version of an ankle bracelet around him. And he can't leave the five boroughs because he always has to be in court," she said. "It is truly an embarrassment to him. I am looking forward to the response of everyday Bronxites, talking about how they feel about him coming to their backyard."
This comes as the presumptive GOP nominee, Donald Trump, has been ordered by Manhattan judge Juan Merchan to be present inside the Manhattan courthouse for the duration of his trial regarding falsified business records stemming from the Trump Org. having classified payments made to then-Trump attorney Michael Cohen as legal fees. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all 34 charges and has been in court for over a month, impacting his ability to campaign.
AOC added that she wouldn't be shocked if Trump bused in "a lot of his pals from Long Island and Jersey, and wherever" and hopes they "pay a nice hefty congestion tax" to increase the income of Bronx tourism and the public education system in New York City.
The Bronx is the poorest neighborhood in the city and the most diverse demographically in the nation. While AOC does represent a portion of the Bronx, Rep. Ritchie Torres, a fellow Democrat, represents the area where Trump's rally is being held.
Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, mocked AOC's comments and brought up her infamous altercation with Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene last week. "You’d think Sandy would have learned her lesson after getting wrecked at the House Oversight Committee hearing, but she never says anything remotely intelligent," said Cheung, according to the Washington Times.
The rally will be held "to highlight the horrendous effects Crooked Joe Biden's disastrous presidency has had on our economy," according to a statement released by the Trump campaign.
Trump plans to draw attention to a number of issues, including "the endless flow of illegal immigrants across our southern border," rising crime, and the inflation of basic commodities and services.
