A group of fifth graders in Arizona planned to stab a boy to death in the school bathroom and then make it look like a suicide, police said. Through investigation with the police, it was determined that one of the students in the group accused of hatching the plan was allegedly in a "relationship" with the boy the group planned to kill. The boy allegedly cheated on his "girlfriend" and she wanted him dead.

Four students, two 11-year-old and two 10-year-olds, at Legacy Traditional School in Surprise, Arizona have been accused of plotting to murder a male classmate as well as forge a suicide note in an attempt to frame the would-be killing as a suicide. The alleged plan was made known to the school on October 1 last year after a parent heard it from a child overhearing the plot, per NBC News.

On October 1, the group of students were talking about how to "end him," the police report said. After police interviewed the suspect fifth graders, law enforcement found that the plan allegedly included luring the fifth-grade boy into a bathroom where he would be stabbed in the stomach. The group planned to forge a suicide note and also wear gloves to avoid getting fingerprints on the scene, the police said in the report.

One of the students who was interviewed said she believed the group was making a joke out of the plot, but backed off when she realized the group "started to get serious" about carrying out the plan. Another student interviewed said they did not want to be a part of it, but that they did not want the others in the group to think they were "weird and not wanting to do it," the report said.

A third thought they group was joking, but then said she realized "they were serious" when she was assigned a role as guard. Three of the four students showed remorse when speaking to authorities while the fourth as well as her parent were not fazed during the process, and the student "would smile and laugh and made excuses for the actions," the police report said.

The four students were arrested and charged with one count of threatening as well as disorderly conduct. They were released to their parents and suspended from school, with expulsion pending. The students who were involved in the alleged murder plot were told to come to the school with their parents the day after.

"Due to federal student privacy laws, we cannot discuss individual student disciplinary matters," a statement from Legacy Traditional School read. "As outlined in the Legacy Student Code of Conduct, any student who makes or shares a threat may face disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion."
