Russ Vought used to be the Office of Management and Budget director. But now he’s the head of Center for Renewing America.

His group is demanding Biden’s Department of Education hand over records that could show ties between the DoE and a group called the Abolitionist Teaching Network.

They’re willing to sue the Department of Education if officials don’t hand over what’s requested.

The Abolitionist Teaching Network is a group that Fox News describes as a “pro-Critical Race Theory” organization.

The topic of racial separatism has been a cultural battleground in the USA this past year. The US Air Force Academy and other military branches reinforce racial separatism as a taught ideology to their ranks.

Vought expressed confidence in the potential of these leads in remarks to the outlet. "I think what it’s going to reveal is that Biden administration officials are intimately involved with Critical Race Theory, that they are tracking with many of the influential people in the Critical Race Theory community.”

Fox News reported on a snafu from the Department of Education who later said it was an error about linking to the Abolitionist Teaching Network in a guide on how schools should spend American Rescue Plan money.

However it was through this reporting that Abolitionist Teaching Network co-founder Bettina Love was connected to the deputy secretary of education for Biden, Cindy Marten.

To Russ that was a red flag. That’s what led him to file a Freedom of Information Act request for all communications between the pro-CRT group and the Biden government.

"You're talking about 13,000 different schools that that April guidance went out to, impacting $200 billion worth of federal funding," Vought remarked.

It isn’t the only time that the Biden administration found itself in this position. In mid-July, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona had to write a blog post distancing the DoE from an alleged Critical Race Theory requirement for grantees.

But it’s not too much of a secret. Early last month Jen Psaki said President Biden is supportive of a curriculum that teaches about “systemic racism that is still impacting society today.”
