The move comes despite the Biden admin banning the platform from government devices.
President Joe Biden's campaign posted its first video to TikTok on Super Bowl Sunday in its latest attempt to win over young voters. This is despite the app being banned on government devices.
The Biden administration banned the platform from being used on government agency devices last year. Sources familiar with Biden’s campaign planning during 2023 told NBC News that the 2024 campaign would not be doing so.
In the posted clip, Biden is asked by a younger person a series of questions about his preferences for the big game, starting with which team he wants to win. He answers that he would have instead wanted the Eagles playing, because the First Lady is a "Philly girl" and didn't want to be "sleeping alone." He then expressed his great desire to have Travis and Jason Kelce's mother's chocolate chip cookies.
The clip ended with a photoshopped picture of "Dark Brandon," as it has been called before, because he would "get in trouble" if he told the audience that he had rigged the Super Bowl in reference to Taylor Swift gaining publicity and then endorsing Biden before the election as part of the "psyop" that Human Events' Jack Posobiec as well as others have spoken about.
Biden's first post is the latest attempt from the campaign to shore up support from younger voters who have become disengaged from supporting him, according to recent polling.
The Biden campaign team told the outlet, Axios on Monday, "In a media ecosystem that is more fragmented and personalized than ever, it's even more important to get our message across every channel and every platform possible."
The outlet reported that the campaign had been considering the jump to the platform since November. By Monday morning, the short clip had over 4 million views.
Biden's support from young voters has been hemorrhaging in recent months, with reports from a poll in November showing a sharp drop in support for Biden over former President Donald Trump compared to margins in 2020.
According to the Guardian, young voters have started to abandon the president surrounding his handling of the war in Israel and Hamas since it started with the Hamas terror attacks on Oct, 7, 2023.
One young voter told the outlet, “My generation is appalled. There’s a lot of people who are not willing to put their votes towards this administration as a result of their actions in Gaza."
Many protests against the president surrounding the issue have had young activists screaming slogans like "F*ck Joe Biden" and "Genocide Joe."
