Biden claims he's not for 'abortion on demand,' but for 'three trimesters'

He said he was not for "abortion on demand" but was only for abortion during "all three trimesters" of pregnancy.

At an event in Las Vegas on Sunday, President Joe Biden raised some eyebrows online after he said he was not for "abortion of demand" but was only for abortion during "all three trimesters" of pregnancy.

The president said to the Nevada crowd, "I love how Trump is saying Biden is for abortion on demand. Not true. That's not what Roe v. Wade said. It said the three trimesters... Trump and his MAGA friends are dividing us, not uniting us."

The third trimester, which leads up to birth, sees unborn babies’ organs like the brain, kidneys, and lungs continue to develop, and the child will be able to suck its thumb and cry, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Abortion laws after the overturning of Roe v Wade in 2022 vary widely by state, with some states banning the procedure except in limited circumstances such as rape or the health of the mother, and other states allowing abortion up until fetal viability. Some states like Oregon and Vermont place no gestation limit on getting an abortion.

Biden has apparently been ramping up events in his campaign schedule ahead of the 2024 election. One has even been in the works to be with former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

Abortion has taken center stage as an issue at some of these. Earlier in January, Biden held a rally in northern Virginia where he stated that former President Donald Trump is "the person most responsible for taking away" abortion.

The gaffe adds to the large number of things that Biden has said before that have confused others and raised concerns about his mental capacity
Another recent gaffe happened last week when Biden declared that Trump was the "sitting president" and seemed to ramble incoherently.

Biden also once again falsely claimed to a family who lost their child in the military that his son Beau Biden had died in Iraq. Biden has repeated the false claim many different times.

During the month of January, Biden also claimed that he "took on apartheid in South Africa" along with other gaffes during a speech in South Carolina.

According to a recent NBC News poll, at least three-quarters of voters are concerned with the president's mental capabilities going into 2024.
