"These attacks have come in the form of conspiracy theories, dangerous falsehoods, efforts to bully and intimidate career public servants by repeatedly and publicly singling them out and threats of actual violence."
Attorney General Merrick Garland gave a speech on Thursday to staff and US attorneys in which he claimed that there had been efforts to turn to the Department of Justice into a "political weapon." Garland has prosecuted Donald Trump in two cases and has been said to have used the department to go after the political enemies of the Biden-Harris administration.
"Over the past three and a half years," he said, "there has been an escalation of attacks on the Justice Department's career lawyers, agents and personnel, that go far beyond scrutiny, criticism, and legitimate and necessary oversight of our work. These attacks have come in the form of conspiracy theories, dangerous falsehoods, efforts to bully and intimidate career public servants by repeatedly and publicly singling them out and threats of actual violence." It was clear from his commentary that he was not pleased about repeated media attacks on special counsel Jack Smith, who he appointed to deal with the administration's two lawsuits against Trump. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has said his appointment was unconstitutional.
Trump, as well as many of his supporters, have said that the Biden-Harris Justice Department has unfairly prosecuted not only Trump but those arrested for trespassing on J6, parents who speak out at school board meetings and were targeted by the DOJ to be treated with the same tools used against domestic terrorists, and conservatives who post their controversial views online. Garland vowed to hold J6ers "accountable" even after the Supreme Court determined that one of the charges brought against hundreds of defendants was not applicable.
"We must treat like cases alike," he said. "There is not one rule for friends and another for foes. One rule for the powerful and another for the powerless. One rule for the rich and another for the poor. One rule for Democrats and another for Republicans or different rules depending on one's race or ethnicity. To the contrary," he continued, "we have only one rule: we follow the facts and apply the law in a way that respects the Constitution and protects civil liberties."
This despite his department determining that President Joe Biden had illegally made off with classified materials following his vice presidential term in office but determining not to prosecute him because he was too old and dotty while continuing to seek prosecution of Trump on similar charges despite a judge having tossed the case.
He further claimed, "our norms are a promise that we will not allow this nation to become a country where law enforcement is treated as an apparatus of politics." He received applause from attorneys and staff.
During the Tuesday presidential debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, who took the opportunity to point out that Trump has been "prosecuted for national security crimes," which was done at the hands of her administration. In response, Trump said as much.
"Every one of those cases was started by them against their political opponent. And I'm winning most of them and I'll win the rest on appeal. And you saw that with the decision that came down just recently from the Supreme Court. I'm winning most of them. But those are cases, it's called weaponization. Never happened in this country. They weaponized the justice department," Trump said.
Garland recently announced the creation of an "election threats task force," saying "The task force is marshaling the full resources of the Justice Department to aggressively investigate and prosecute threats targeting election workers, officials, and volunteers."
"The regime is ramping up its fear campaign ahead of November," Charlie Kirk said.
Garland has refused to comply with a congressional subpoena to turn over documentation in the classified documents case that he refused to prosecute against Joe Biden while going ahead with the one against Trump.

Funny how these ' conspiracy theories' during the past four years, have been proven true.
