A Canadian trans-identified male who is serving a rare "indeterminate" prison sentence for the rape of a three-month-old baby is currently being held in a women’s prison in British Columbia that has a mother-and-baby unit.

The individual who now goes by the name of Tara DeSousa was 15 years old at the time of the horrific crime. DeSousa’s sexual assault of the 3-month-old baby was so brutal that the child had to be flown from Quesnel to Vancouver to undergo reconstructive surgery, reports Reduxx.

According to new reports, DeSousa "mutilated himself and ate his own flesh," following the horrifying assault.

During the trial in 1999, an expert witness testified that DeSousa displayed "everything from transsexual to pedophilic tendencies."

Because DeSousa started identifying as a woman only after being convicted and sentenced, court reporting from the time of the trial refers to the child rapist using male pronouns and the name Adam Laboucan.

A forensic psychiatrist testified to say that DeSousa had admitted to being a danger to the public.

"He said he was not planning a life of crime, but he felt he had no way to control the flood of violent, murderous fantasies," Dr. Ian Postnikoff told the BC Supreme Court

Postnikoff also told the court that DeSousa had caused self-inflicted wrist wounds by chewing himself resulting in serious self-mutilation.

"While in custody, he would turn them against himself, but this high level of self-mutilation, almost self-cannibalization, could be turned against other, weaker individuals, with possibly fatal consequences," said Postnikoff.

"With the history and severity of the offenses of Mr. Laboucan, it’s difficult to say how long his treatment would last," added Postinkoff. "He’s not a regular sexual offender. I would say it would be a very long time, possibly years. I would be very, very concerned to hear that Laboucan (DeSousa) would be released into the community in the near future."

While DeSousa was not released into the community, it was deemed appropriate that the flesh-eating pedophile be granted transfer to a women’s prison after the individual announced a female gender identity.

The horrific sexual assault of the baby is not DeSousa’s only crime. According to a 1999 CBC news report, clinical psychologist Dr. Steve Sigmond testified in court that when examining DeSousa in 1997, the teen had confessed to drowning a 3-year-old boy in Quesnel in 1993. DeSousa was just 11 years old at the time so no charges were laid because the law requires the accused to be at least 12 years old.

Reduxx reports that the child’s mother, Delores Deutsch, told the court she wanted her child’s murderer to remain behind bars for life.

"They thought it was an accident, but inside I knew it wasn’t. I don’t know. I guess a mother just knows, inside that feeling," Deutsch said.

Sigmond also testified that DeSousa confessed to having sexual fantasies about children under the age of three and that he had a history of sexually aggressive behavior.

In 1999, at the age of 17, DeSousa was given a rare indeterminate prison sentence reflecting the brutal nature of the crime. This made DeSousa Canada’s youngest criminally violent sex offender

Yet this didn’t preclude the child rapist from being transferred to Fraser Valley Institute for Women in Abbotsford.

It is not known when exactly DeSousa started to undergo a medical sex change, but Reduxx reports that a convict dating profile created in 2018 shows the baby rapist boasting of having a "vagina" and "breast implants."

"I am a transgender woman and I was born a man but now after surgery I became a full woman," Reduxx discovered on DeSousa’s Canadian Inmates Connect profile. "I have a vagina, not a penis, and also have 720ccs DD gel implants."

It is thought that the British Columbia taxpayers footed the bill for the disturbed individual’s sex change procedures.

The Parole Board of Canada has repeatedly refused DeSousa’s request for release indicating that the transgender pedophile remains a high risk to the public.

In 2010, CTV reported, using male pronouns despite acknowledging the inmate’s transgender identity, that the parole board panel had refused DeSousa’s release saying a "complex set of risk factors related to his gender identity, impulsive behaviour, violence and sexual deviance puts him at high risk to reoffend."

According to Reduxx, by 2010 there had been seven parole hearings and the child sex offender’s gender identity had been mentioned at every one.

DeSousa’s latest parole appeal in Sept 2022 was denied as the inmate is still deemed at a high risk of re-offending and is therefore considered a potential danger to society. The next opportunity for appeal will be in 2024.

Fraser Valley Institution for Women, where the self-cannibalistic pedophile is currently housed, has a minimum security program for incarcerated mothers and their children.

Heather Mason, a former federal inmate who is now an advocate for single-sex prisons, submitted a brief to the 2021 Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in which she said DeSousa and a fellow trans-identified pedophile Madilyn Harks would loiter near a mother and her child making "sexist and inappropriate antagonizing comments."

Harks is a serial pedophile who has been described as having an "all-encompassing preoccupation in sexually abusing young girls." Harks is believed to have targeted at least 60 victims and was charged with approximately 200 offenses related to sexual abuse.

Mason has a network of contacts within the women’s prison system and shared with Reduxx exchanges she had had with women at Fraser Valley. One woman told Mason that DeSousa had been "staring" at children to "antagonize" the women.

The anonymous woman told of a disturbing encounter with DeSousa at a volunteer appreciation event that she took her infant son to. A guard had warned her of DeSousa’s presence and informed her of the nature of DeSousa’s crime.

"I was told that there was an extremely violent child sex offender present who hadn’t been in the presence of a young child in a very long time," said the woman, who added that her child was around the same age as Laboucan’s infant victim. "Once I was informed of the sick and brutal nature of the crime against the child, I regretted even going or letting that person set eyes on my child."

She also said that DeSousa was housed next to the mother-and-child unit after this incident and that his behavior then became more disturbing.

"These accusations of looming around the child program resulted in a dispute in which this trans sex offender picked up and threw a female inmate and charged after her once she was on the ground to continue the assault," the woman told Mason. "Luckily, guards intercepted, but they segregated the female inmate for inciting a reaction for confronting this trans inmate sex offender for his actions."

Incarcerated women are disproportionately likely to have been victims of male sexual violence, and a recent report released by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) showed that 82 percent of the "gender-diverse" inmates currently incarcerated are trans-identified males serving sentences for sex offenses. The report also stated that almost all had come out as transgender after committing their crimes, and that most of the offenses caused death or serious harm to the victims, over half of whom were female.

Male criminals who self-identify as women have been permitted transfer to women’s prisons in Canada since Bill C-16 was passed in 2017, which added gender identity and gender expression as protected characteristics to the Criminal Code.
