"The dreamers, and all of them, cause our ultimate goal is to help the dreamers, but get a path to citizenship for all 11 million or however many undocumented there are here," he added.

Speaking outside of the Capitol building on Wednesday, Senator Chuck Schumer stated that all illegal immigrants that reside in the US should receive citizenship, citing a worker shortage.

"Now more than ever, we’re short of workers, we have a population that is not reproducing it on its own with the same level that it used to, the only way that we’re going to have a great future in America is if we welcome and embrace immigrants," Schumer said.

"The Dreamers, and all of them, cause our ultimate goal is to help the Dreamers, but get a path to citizenship for all 11 million or however many undocumented there are here," he added.

This comes after a federal judge blocked the Biden administration from using Title 42 to quickly expel illegal immigrants that cross the border.

Title 42 was initially enacted by Trump at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic as a means of allowing authorities to quickly and efficiently expel migrants on public health grounds.

According to The Hill, House Democrats are looking to push an immigration reform bill to the Senate before they lose their majority in the next year.

The bill looks to protect Dreamers, the beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

During the 2022 fiscal year, which runs from October of 2021 through September of 2022, the border saw a record number of people encountered by Border Patrol agents crossing the southern border illegally.

According to Customs and Border Patrol statistics, the 2022 fiscal year saw 2,378,944 encounters. In October of the 2023 fiscal year, 230,768 people were encountered crossing the border illegally, far surpassing the October totals for previous fiscal years, setting up 2023 to be yet another record-breaking year.

In response to these record numbers, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday that he would be taking action against the "invasion" facing the state.

The National Guard in the state would be deployed to the border, the Texas Department of Public Safety will be arresting and returning people to the border, a border wall will be built, and gun boats will be deployed to the border.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
