Ontario Premier Doug Ford told Ontarians on Tuesday not to make plans over Easter, suggesting that more public health measures could be implemented if cases continue to rise in the province.
Ford said restrictions could come, if advised by his chief medial officers to do so. "Every decision that I've ever made is through the advice of the chief medical officer and I've taken his lead right from the beginning," said Ford.
"I know he works collaboratively with the local medical officers of health. We were hitting below 1,000 cases, things were looking rosy, and I took the advice of the chief medical officer, and I'll continue to take the advice. I won't hesitate, believe me, to lock things down until we can protect the ICU capacities at the hospitals."

Ford said he had conversations with Toronto Mayor John Tory and Peel Mayor Bonnie Crombie, saying that "everyone was on the same page."
"That's why we have the emergency brake available, which we've used a few times in different regions, and we won't hesitate to do it again here in Toronto... No matter what we do, just asking the people, please. I know the weather is really nice out there, but we can't let our guard down. We can't be gathering. You drive around and go to the park and other places, we're letting our guard down, we just can't do that. This is critical," said Ford.
With Saturday and Sunday reporting more than 2,400 cases each, the rolling seven-day average for new infections is over 2,000 for the first time in weeks.

"It's just common sense," Mayor Tory said in response to a viewer question about whether or not salons and other personal care places will re-open, adding that he "will not will not be supporting anything less than extremely cautious re-openings."
"The vast majority want a cautious approach on this because they do not want another lockdown," he said. "You look at it day-by-day. I think the province was smart to announce a date out into the future where we could have a look at doing this."
