The shooting was near the Agudath Israel of Baltimore synagogue around 12:30 pm.
The shooting took place on the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue, near the Agudath Israel of Baltimore synagogue around 12:30 pm. The officer was then taken into shock trauma. Police said to avoid the surrounding area after the incident took place. The police were responding to a 911 call about a burglary taking place at the location.
When officers arrived on the scene, they were met with gunfire, according to Police Commissioner Richard Worley. The gunfire was coming from inside the home where the reported burglary was taking place. The officer who was shot got hit in the leg. Additionally, a female victim who jumped out the window of the home was taken the hospital for injuries. After SWAT arrived on the scene, a sniper shot and killed the suspect, per Fox 45.
"BPD is on scene of an Active Shooter Incident in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue. An officer has been shot & transported to Shock Trauma. A suspect was also shot. Avoid the surrounding areas. More information will be provided as it becomes available," the Baltimore Police Department said in a post to X.
The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police said that "all involved members" of the shooting are in "good spirits." The Baltimore Police said in an email to Fox News that the shooting "was NOT at a synagogue or religious institution." However, the location of the shooting is near the Baltimore synagogue.
According to Yeshiva World, a soft lockdown alert went out at the synagogue nearby. “BNY: SOFT LOCKDOWN IN PLACE. ALL GIRLS/STAFF ARE SAFE. CARS CANNOT ACCESS THE CAMPUS. WE WILL UPDATE SOON," a message sent out to parents said.
