UPDATE: Ottawa Police say that one man is in custody following the incident at the Rideau Centre, and a police operation is still underway.
Original article below.
Police are outside of the Rideau Centre in Ottawa after reports of a man with a gun on the second floor, though police have not confirmed what is currently ongoing.
The Centre is currently being evacuated, according to Althia Raj of CBC. Police say "it’s an emergency." Multiple sources have confirmed that employees were told to evacuate.
Police tweeted that "an ongoing police operation" was taking place, and for people to "avoid Dalhousie Street to the Canal and the Mackenzie King Bridge."
"Employees have been told to leave Rideau Centre. Patrons told to run up Sussex and away from building. Heavily armed police seen outside," reported Graham Richardson of CTV News.
The Rideau Centre just reopened to the public on Tuesday. Power has reportedly been cut to the centre as well.
Earlier, police deleted a tweet stating that the incident was related to a shoplifter with a weapon, who was arrested.
Police now say that one person is in custody.
Local radio station KISS 105.1 said that the call was related to a shoplifter with a weapon, and that there was no threat to the public.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
