BREAKING: Paul Pelosi 'violently assaulted' in San Francisco home

Pelosi was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover without incident.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband was reportedly violently assaulted in the couple's San Francisco home early Friday morning. A statement from the Speaker's office states that an assailant broke into the home.

Pelosi was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover without incident. The person who broke into the home is in custody, said the Speaker's spokesperson Drew Hammill.

This has been a rough year for Pelosi, who was charged with a DUI after crashing his car. He pled not guilty to those charges.

Pelosi is 82 years old.

The full statement reads:

"Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi. The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation. "The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time."

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
