On Wednesday, now-former armorer Hannah Guttierez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for her role in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of Rust in 2021.

While actor and producer Alec Baldwin fired the round that ended Hutchins' life, it was determined that Guttierez-Reed, 26, failed to ensure that proper gun safety protocols were taken, and that her actions, or lack thereof, resulted in the killing.

According to the Independent, the Santa Fe, New Mexico jury deliberated for 2.5 hours before returning its verdict. She was found not guilty on a separate charge of evidence tampering.

Prosecutors argued that Guttierez-Reed "repeatedly" put the lives of her fellow crew members at risk via her negligence, noting that she unknowingly took live ammunition onto the set, where it sat for nearly two weeks before Hutchins was killed.

Attorney Kari Morrissey said Guttierez-Reed exhibited an "astonishing lack of diligence" with the firearms, and oversaw "constant, never-ending safety failures."

The former armorer's lawyers suggested that she was simply being used as a "convenient scapegoat."

Baldwin, who has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter, is set to go on trial in July.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
