Tyler Robinson, the suspect who reportedly confessed to the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10, could face capital punishment in the murder of Kirk. Utah is one of the five states in the nation that still allows for the death penalty to be carried out by firing squad.

Prosecutors in the case of Robinson are preparing to file capital murder charges against Robinson today in court, per the Daily Mail. Charges against him include aggravated murder, which can lead to the death penalty if he is convicted.

Robinson, who has been revealed to be a radical leftist who was in a romantic relationship with a man who identified as transgender, was detained the day after the shooting, after he was confronted by his father. The parent had recognized the suspect from photos and footage that was released to the public to help identify the suspected shooter.

When his father confronted him, the suspect said that he would rather commit suicide than turn himself in. Leading up to the assassination, his family had said that Robinson expressed disdain for Kirk and his views.

Robinson is set to appear in a virtual hearing on Tuesday. He has been held without bail since his arrest, and it is not clear if he has an attorney. Bullets with inscribed casings were found near the scene of the crime with a rifle that authorities believe to be the murder weapon in the case. The messages on the bullets were linked to Antifa as well as online pro-trans and furry subcultures. It has previously been reported that the suspect had a fixation on furries—where people dress up as cartoonish animals often for sexual gratification.

His trans partner, Lance Twiggs, also has photos on social media posting in furry-related garb, such as animal ears and other clothing. Utah Governor Cox has said that Robinson was deeply indoctrinated with "leftist ideology," and authorities are also investigating the leftist Utah-based group, Armed Queers of Salt Lake City. The group deleted its social media presence in the days following the assassination of Kirk.

Some left-wing media outlets as well as pundits have tried to paint Robinson as a far-right radical, citing that he grew up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, he stopped participating in the religion years ago. Other information that has been cited includes a doctored photo of Robinson in a t-shirt appearing to support Trump; however, the original photo is a maroon shirt without any logos.
