Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed media on Friday, announcing that his government would invest another $600 million for the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund.
Trudeau was joined by Minister of Intergovernmental affairs Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages Melanie Joly, and Dr. Theresa Tam.
The newly announced investment will support the "Community future network and five regional development agencies: The Atlantic Canada Opportunity Agency, the Canadian Economy Development of Quebec Region, the Fed Dev of Ontario, Fed Nor, and the Western Economy Diversification of Canada Agency."
"We will be here for Canadians, whatever it takes, as long as it takes," emphasized the prime minister.
Trudeau also announced an investment of $50 million: $10 million for women's shelters and sexual assault centres across the country, and $10 million for gender-based violence for Indigenous women living off reserve. $30 million will go towards organizations that combat gender-based violence.
The prime minister also sent his best wishes to President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, who were both diagnosed with COVID-19 last night.
