The signing took place after Hamas released all the living hostages remaining in Gaza.
"This took 3,000 years to get to this point; can you believe it? It's gonna hold up, too," Trump said, as he and other leaders in the Middle East signed the peace plan. Leaders of Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, and other Middle East leaders signed the document.
A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas went into effect on Friday as part of the first steps of the agreement and Israel pulled back troops to a predetermined line over the weekend. On Monday morning, 20 living Israeli hostages were released by Hamas to Israel, and Trump gave a speech at the Knesset flanked by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders.
Other world leaders that were at the peace summit in Egypt included British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and others.
Aside from the living hostages, the dead bodies of 28 other hostages who were killed in captivity have not been fully returned to Israel as of the signing. When asked about the topic, Trump stated that people are "looking for the bodies," and that search parties are "doing it in conjunction with Israel."
"After years of suffering and bloodshed the war in Gaza is over. Humanitarian aid is now pouring in, including hundreds of truckloads of food, medical equipment and other supplies, much of it paid for by people in this room," Trump said while standing with a number of international leaders. "Civilians are returning to their homes. The hostages are reuniting. I mean, it's beautiful. I'm just watching it backstage, the level of love and sorrow, and I've never seen anything like it. It's amazing. You see, they haven't seen their mother, their father. They haven't seen them in such a long time."
"They lived in a tunnel, a very little tunnel very deep, and the level of love is just incredible. It's a beautiful thing to see. It is, in one sense, it's so horrible that it could have taken place, but in another sense, it's so beautiful to see new and beautiful days rising. And now rebuilding begins. Rebuilding is maybe going to be the easiest part. I think we've done a lot of the hardest part, because the rest comes together. We all know how to rebuild, and we know how to build better than anybody in the world," Trump added.
