Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will be returning to Butler, Pennsylvania to hold a rally in honor of those killed or injured at his July 13 rally in the same town. Gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on the crowd, hitting Trump in the ear, injuring two others, and killing former fire chief Corey Comperatore while he was shielding his family from the gunfire.

"I will be going back to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a big and beautiful rally, honoring the soul of our beloved firefighting hero, Corey, and those brave patriots injured two weeks ago. What a day it will be — Fight, fight, fight! Stay tuned for details," Trump wrote. Trump had been on the stage for mere minutes before Crooks began shooting.

In the aftermath of the assassination attempt, the US Secret Service has urged the Trump campaign to cease holding outdoor rallies, with many of his previous rallies being held in such locations. “Obviously with an indoor venue, you have a capacity,” one campaign official told the Washington Post at the time. “It doesn’t pack the same punch. There’s something about being at one of those outdoor rallies.”

Trump's rally in Michigan on Saturday marked the first time since the assassination attempt that such an event of his was held. “They keep saying ‘he’s a threat to democracy’... last week I took a bullet for democracy,” Trump told the crowd. The rally was held in Grand Rapids' Van Andel Arena.
