The Mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, demanded that the US Attorney for Oregon remove the deputized status of some Police Officers in Portland. This deputized status allows those who assault local cops to be federally charged.

In a scathing press release, Billy J. Williams, US Attorney for the District of Oregon, and Ross Burger, US Marshall for the District of Oregon, provide an explanation as to why the state needs to have deputized police officers and why the violence needs to stop.
Deputizing police essentially gives law enforcement the support of a federal system that will prosecute criminals who vandalize, steal and kill. Portland has seen nightly riots for months, with seemingly no end in sight. This cross-deputizing has allegedly assisted the police in keeping the communities safe and ensuring criminals do not merely end up right back on the street.
It also seemingly protects officers as the US Attorney says, "the federal deputation supports front line law enforcement officers and their families in a way they have no seen from city hall."
A poll of the @PortlandPolice rank & file (sworn officers, cadets, and staff) shows the vast majority want the @USAO_OR to expand deputization of ALL sworn officers in Portland. Portland is TIRED of Antifa's reign of terror. It is time to put these criminals in jail. #BidenRiots pic.twitter.com/v92TauQ0km
