"Today I got a call that he got up from bed. Do you believe that?" Trump said.
Trump has been in touch with Wolfe's mother Monica, who told the President today that her son had got up from be. "Today I got a call that he got up from bed. Do you believe that?" Trump said.
Trump spoke about the attack and Sarah's killing before delivering the good news to the waiting crowd. "She was killed almost instantly," he said. "They kept her alive so her parents came from West Virginia, another great state. Parents are incredible. They couldn't believe it. She was 20 years old, perfect. She was just getting a little promotion. They were so proud of her. She was on her way up, and she was shot in the head," he said.
"Andrew is the second one who's also from West Virginia National Guard," Trump said, "incredible people, and so they were both from West Virginia, and his mother's name Monica. And Monica is the most positive person I've ever seen. The night that he was so badly hit and the doctors gave him almost no chance."
"His mother, Trump said, was sure that her son would pull through. The news delivered today, that he's got out of bed, is a testament to his mother's confidence and hope. She and Trump spoke the day her son was shot and have continued to do so in the days since.
"Sir, he moved his finger today," Trump quoted her as saying. "This is like three days later, he moved his finger. And today I got a call that he got up from bed. Do you believe that?" The crowd cheered.
"Now, he didn't speak," Trump went on. "He's not ready for that yet. I mean, you got hit in the head, but he got up and, boy, they're so happy. It's amazing. And the care that they've given him the hospital, and the generals that have been there, the military that's been there, it's amazing."
Wolfe was patrolling near the White House with his fellow West Virginian and National Guardsmen Sarah Beckstrom when they were ambushed and shot. A suspect is in custody and has been charged with first degree murder.
The suspect was an asylum seeker from Afghanistan who came to the United States as part of President Joe Biden's efforts to bring all those who had worked alongside US Armed Forces in Afghanistan to the US. Rahmanullah Lakanwal was in the Afghan Army and worked alongside US Armed Forces.
Lakanwal reportedly drove from Washington state to DC before opening fire on the Guardsmen. He reportedly shouted "allahu akbar" before taking his shots on the Guardsmen, including fatal attacks on Beckstrom.
Biden withdrew US troops from Afghanistan in August 2021 in a disastrous operation that saw 13 US service members killed in a suicide bombing. Extensive US military equipment was left behind as well. The ruling Taliban party has used that equipment in the staging of military victory parades.
