Canada now has over 60,000 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus as of Monday, according to new data released by federal and provincial authorities. The number is now 60,615 total cases, according to Global News.

Over half of the country's total cases are in Quebec with the province reporting 32,623 cases on Monday and a total death toll of 2,280. The total death toll for the entire country is 3,842 people to date.

On a more positive note, a little more than 25,750 people have made full recoveries, according to the most recent data.

Despite the total number of cases now exceeding 60,000, several provinces are still deciding to go ahead with their plans for a 'slow' reopen.

Quebec may have the most ambitious plans to of any province to bring things back to normal so far with plans to reopen the economy and loosen the social distancing measures that have been put into place thus far, as of May 18.

Initially, the reopen date was to be May 11, however Premier Legault announced they would push the date back by another week on Monday. The island of Montreal has about half of the province's total infections. The city's retail stores are included in what will be allowed to reopen on May 18.

As for how many people have been tested for the virus in Canada, that number has reached almost 950,000. According to the country's public health agency, within that number, about 6.5 percent of those tests came back positive.
