A recent survey conducted by Statistics Canada suggests if and when a coronavirus vaccine becomes available, most Canadians would get it but over one in 10 would not.

Respondents said they would be cautious about receiving the vaccine due to safety concerns and potential side effects. Other respondents said that they simply do not trust vaccines, reports Global News.

Dr. Theresa Tam, the chief public health officer of Canada says that the government wants to make sure that people who are opposed to or worried about vaccines are provided with information about the approval process.

Tam added that the federal government is not going to take shortcuts in developing a vaccine though it is working to accelerate the process.

She went as far as to say social-media and other internet companies should police users to stop the spread of misinformation about vaccines.

Nations throughout the world are currently working to develop a vaccine as coronavirus has infected over 23 million people. Roughly 126,000 Canadians have been infected by the virus. There have been less than 10,000 deaths in Canada due to the coronavirus, and more than 112,000 recoveries.
