A 25-year-old man has been charged with aggravated DUI causing bodily harm after allegedly driving 105 mph and running a red light before crashing into another vehicle on Chicago’s West Side.

Joshua Orozco was charged in connection with the June 25, 2025, crash at Washington Boulevard and Western Avenue. The victim, a 30-year-old medical resident at Stroger Hospital, suffered a concussion and multiple facial fractures from the incident.

Prosecutors allege that Orozco ran a red light at Western Avenue in his 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, striking the victim’s Toyota Prius. According to a report from the Chicago Police Department, data from the Jeep’s airbag control module found that Orozco was traveling at approximately 105 mph at the time of the crash.

The impact caused the victim’s Prius to spin out, while Orozco’s Jeep flipped and struck two trees. Orozco sustained minor injuries and was treated at a hospital. Authorities said his blood alcohol level was about .155, nearly twice the legal limit.

After being read his Miranda rights, Orozco admitted he was the driver of the vehicle and had been drinking. However, DUI charges were not filed until this week, and the reason for the delay remains unclear, according to CWBChicago.

At the time of the crash, Orozco was on pretrial release for a misdemeanor gun charge. That case was dropped last September. Prosecutors petitioned to have him detained pending trial in the current case. However, Judge Rivanda Doss Beal denied the request.
