Schumer cited Harris' "tremendous record," though he did not give any specifics.
Schumer laughed as he and Jeffries joined to make the announcement, saying that "together" they hope to increase the Senate majority and surpass the GOP in the House. Schumer said he'd seen a "surge of enthusiasm from every corner" of the Democrat party "uniting behind Vice President Harris." Schumer had been one of those behind the scenes urging the president to drop out of the race.
This "enthusiasm," he said, is "contagious among Democrats" and that this has led to an increase in "small donations" from supporters. Schumer then cited Harris' "tremendous record," though he did not give any specifics.
"Now," he said, "begins the next chapter in our quest to make sure Donald Trump does not become president. Today, with one voice, we speak about the danger he presents to working families, to our country, to our democracy."
This as the Democrats eschew the democratic process and seek to install Harris at the nominee despite her not having been duly elected by the American people during the primary process. The 14 million voters who have already cast ballots in Democrat primaries across the country voted for Biden, yet now the delegates tasked with carrying those votes to the convention are being asked to switch their allegiance to Harris, without input from the voters.
"We see very clearly how very clearly how nervous the Republicans are about our new nominee," said Schumer, "well they ain't seen nothin' yet. Last night, Vice President Harris secured a majority of delegates." Then he announced plans for the campaign over the next 15 weeks until the election.
Schumer passed the mic to Jeffries, who touted Biden's "historic" record and claimed that Biden had made the "selfless decision to pass the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris."
Jeffries also made the claim that "Vice President Harris has earned the nomination from the grassroots up and not the top down." Harris did not run for the presidency during this election season. When she did run, in 2020, she earned some 3% of the vote in polling. When Biden chose her for his running mate, it was after he promised to bring a black woman onto the ticket. Biden said that "elites" were trying to force him off the ticket.
Jeffries claimed that Harris is a "common sense leader who knows how to deliver real results for hard working American taxpayers," and went as far as to call her "courageous" and "compassionate." He offered his full endorsement.
