Amid serious concerns regarding President Biden's cognitive health, a pair of well-connected Democrats have devised a plan that involves a "blitz primary" election before the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August.

The plan involves convincing President Biden to step down as the Party's nominee and have other candidates jump into the race, according to a memo obtained by Semafor. The official nominee would then be chosen by delegates at the convention. However, convincing Biden to quit the race would come as a difficult task, as the president has made it clear he would not be dropping out against his Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump.

The proposal has been drafted by Ted Dintersmith, a venture capitalist and Democrat donor, as well as Rosa Brooks, a former Biden campaign advisor who served under the Obama and Clinton administrations. The pair has reportedly floated the idea to Democratic donors and officials with the Biden campaign and the White House.

Dintersmith told Semafor that they hope to change the current narrative in Washington that the Democratic Party is in peril, saying, "In the midst of malaise and crisis, we can forge an uplifting path."

The “blitz primary” would be carried out as follows, per the memo: In mid-July, Biden would step down as the Democratic nominee and announce the "blitz primary," which would be supported by Vice President Kamala Harris. New candidates would have a few days to make their bids. DNC delegates would then select six candidates who would campaign in the month leading up to the convention.

Each candidate would participate in weekly forums moderated by "cultural icons" to excite voters, such as Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift, and Oprah. The Democrat nominee would then be chosen by delegates using ranked choice voting before the start of the DNC convention in Chicago on Aug. 19. The new party candidate would be announced on stage at the convention with Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton.

"We can limp to shameful, avoidable democracy-ending defeat. Or Democrats can make this Our Finest Hour. While we hope for help from Lord Almighty, the Lord helps those who help themselves," the memo states. "We need to act. Now."

This comes amid mass panic from within the Democratic Party following Biden's dismal debate performance against his opponent Donald Trump. Since the debate, Democrat megadonors and prominent Democratic lawmakers have called on Biden to drop out of the race, as they no longer can see a path to victory in November.
