“This might be the greatest fundraising moment in Democratic Party history.”
An analysis of ActBlue, the top site for processing Democratic donations, showed that after Joe Biden dropped out of the race via a post on X, momentum for Kamala Harris was building, with donations spiking from an average of less than $200,000 per hour before the letter revealing Biden's declination to continue the race, to $7.5 million in an hour later on Sunday following the announcement and subsequent endorsement of Harris.
Democratic strategist Kenneth Pennington posted on X, “This might be the greatest fundraising moment in Democratic Party history.”
Previously, the single biggest day for donations on ActBlue came the day after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died in 2020, when the site processed approximately $73.5 million in one day, according to The New York Times.
Following Biden’s disastrous June debate performance against former President Donald Trump, Democrat fundraising had stalled as many donors looked to down-ballot races and threatened to pull funds if Biden wasn’t booted from the ticket.
