Vice President Kamala Harris is set to address Democratic donors in a call on Friday afternoon. The timing of the call is significant, as many Democratic donors and voters are eagerly watching to see if Harris will be the Democratic nominee for president in the upcoming election, should President Joe Biden announce his decision to step down in the coming days.

According to the New York Times, it remains unclear what Harris's message will be during the 30-minute call. She may aim to reassure donors about the current instability or deliver a specific message about the future of the party.

Billionaire Reid Hoffman, one of the largest Democratic donors and the strongest financial backer of Biden's campaign efforts, endorsed the call and encouraged his network of Silicon Valley donors to participate.

“We continue to find ourselves in a rapidly evolving environment,” Mr. Hoffman wrote in an email to his “friends and allies.” “With the stakes as high as they are this cycle, we have to remain focused on the critical work that needs to be done to protect our democracy.”

Hoffman further stated that the call would “discuss urgent emerging needs” and that his network of donors would “also hear from leaders working on the front lines with voters.”

The call comes as allies of VP Harris have mobilized in an attempt to ensure that she becomes the nominee should Biden announce he is no longer running for re-election. Harris' team has attempted to form a strategy that would position her as the party's nominee by highlighting her experience as vice president, regarding the handling of both foreign and domestic issues.
