"We should note that this also allows Vice President Harris to stay vague, stay, you know, unspecific. 'That's from the Biden platform. That's not ours.'"
The comments came from Jake Tapper, who said that having Biden mentioned would leave policies for Harris "vague" and "unspecific,” and allowed the campaign to place blame on Biden.
Tapper during CNN's coverage of the first day of the DNC said, "President Biden dropped out of the race a month and a day ago. You wouldn't know that if you read the Democratic platform because it repeatedly refers to President Biden's second term." The platform refers to Biden's second term around 19 times.
CNN's David Chalian responded, telling others on the panel, "The idea of reopening the platform to try to fit in not yet fully developed Kamala Harris policies, while they were quickly changing, they thought they would be opening a can of worms, right? And that there would be all of a sudden some fights about what goes in the platform and they wanted to avoid that at all costs." He added that the Democrats were willing to take the hit on the platform not being updated.
Tapper then revealed, "We should note that this also allows Vice President Harris to stay vague, stay, you know, unspecific. 'That's from the Biden platform. That's not ours.'"
Harris’ rise to the presidential nomination without winning a single primary has rubbed some people the wrong way in the Democrat Party. The New York Times’ Maureen Dowd even referred to the way that Harris was brought in to replace Biden as a “coup” over the weekend. Additionally, Harris has not been heavily challenged by the media to get specific on her policies.
According to reports, Harris has been advised by allies not to disclose her policy positions and some Democratic lawmakers are perfectly content with her not getting specific on policy until after the election.
