Former Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders will run for the Progressive Conservative Party in the June provincial election.
Saunders will run in the Don Valley West riding—the riding held by former Ontario Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne, who is not seeking reelection.
“There is no one I’d rather have on the ballot in Don Valley West than Mark,” said Doug Ford in a statement on Tuesday, according to Global News.
"Mark brings an incredible amount of experience serving with the Toronto Police Service for nearly four decades. I’m thrilled to have him join our team and have no doubt he’ll be an incredible voice at Queen’s Park."
Saunders served as police chief from April 26, 2015 to July 31, 2020. He took over for Bill Blair, who entered federal politics as a Liberal, and is now the Minister of Public Safety.
“This is a critical time in Ontario’s history as we recover from the impacts of the pandemic, and it is clear the Ontario PC Party has a strong plan to build a better future for our families and future generations to come,” Saunders said in a statement.
