Firefighters in Detroit were attacked on Monday morning as they were trying to rescue two people trapped in an SUV that had crashed into a building. A GMV Terrain crashed into a building near Detroit's 7 Mile Road and Terrell Avenue. The man driving was killed in the crash.

Firefighters and emergency responders rushed to the scene about 3 am on Monday morning, per Click On Detroit.

The crowd of onlookers that had gathered, however, turned on the firefighters and emergency workers, throwing rocks at them and their vehicles. One person apparently took equipment off a fire truck and used it to bash the truck's windshield.

The crowd prevented the first responders from being able to access the crash site. Once they were able to get through, they found the driver dead. The crowd blamed the first responders, who they had allegedly prevented from accessing the scene, for not accessing the scene quick enough.

Dispatches from the scene reveal firefighters and EMS workers reporting that there was a hostile situation at the crash site.

"We've got a large crowd," one first responder on the scene reported.

"You've got civilians throwing things at the fire engine," said another first responder.

"We've got a hostile scene," said another.

"We ask the residents of Detroit to cooperate with our first responders and to not distract them when they are delivering medical care to their fellow citizens," said fire department commissioner Chuck Simms.
