Ontario Premier Doug Ford has criticized American President Donald Trump, saying he was "disappointed" in his actions after he pressured an American company to stop selling masks to Canada.

He also ushered in a new era of self-reliance for Ontario in the press conference today, saying that the province should never have to depend on anyone in the future.

"Never again in the history of Canada should we ever be beholden to countries around the world or companies around the world for the safety and well being for the people of Canada," said the premier.

"We have the technology, the ingenuity, the engineering might, the manufacturing might. There's nothing we can't build right here in Ontario... As long as I'm premier, I will never ever let this happen again to the people of our province, and our country," he added.

Premier Ford, however, went on to slam Donald Trump for pressuring an American company to stop sending masks to Canada.

"I'm not going to rely on President Trump, I'm not going to rely on any Prime Minister or President from any country ever again."

Ford went on to say that he "can't stress just how disappointed I am with President Trump for making this decision. I understand, he's gotta take care of his own people, but we're connected.

Premier Ford previously caused some controversy in Canada when he endorsed the leadership of the American president earlier in his tenure. It is unclear now whether the premier would still offer his support.
