On Sunday, former President Donald Trump will join Texas Governor Gregg Abbott on a trip to Edinburg, Texas, where the governor is expected to endorse Trump for the GOP's presidential nomination.

According to Fox News, Trump and Abbott will be visiting with and serving pre-Thanksgiving tamales to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Texas National Guardsmen serving at the southern border.

The former president endorsed Abbott in a hotly contested Texas primary in 2021, which helped to secure him the nomination and eventually a third term as governor.

Trump's trip to the border just days after he vowed to tackle illegal immigration and human trafficking in his second term. Among the initiatives he promised are ending welfare payouts to illegal immigrants, revoking their eligibility to obtain public housing, and even revoking work permits for those here illegally.

The former president's plan also included sending 4,000 National Guardsmen to the border to aid in operational support missions, along with a promise to finish the border wall started in his first term.

Earlier this year, upon the end of the Covid-19 era border restrictions, Title 42, expiring, Abbott announced his plan to send a "Texas Tactical Border Force" to the southern border under Operation Lone Star. At the time he said, "With the ending of Title 42 on Thursday, President Biden is laying down the welcome mat to people across the entire world, but Texas is deploying our new Texas Tactical Border Force."

Under the Biden administration, there have been more than 7 million illegal immigrants crossing into the United States. The crisis has gotten to the point that mayors in various sanctuary cities have begun to say that are at capacity and it is unsustainable to house and care for the massive numbers they are taking in.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently traveled to the border to tell migrants to not come to his city, because they won't be able to afford it. He has noted that if the current crisis is not resolved, it will destroy New York.
