"We’re not shedding them," he continued, "they’re leaving in droves."
James Carville has a warning for the Democrat Party. Young people, especially young minority men, are leaving the party. He said this isn't a shedding of some voters, but that they are leaving "in droves."
"I’ve been very vocal about this," Carville said on his Carville’s Classroom podcast. "It’s horrifying our numbers among younger voters, particularly younger blacks, younger latinos … younger people of color. Particularly males."
"We’re not shedding them," he continued, "they’re leaving in droves."
Polling backs up his concern. Young Americans have said they are losing support for Democrats, and there has been a great deal of backlash from younger leftists regarding US support for Israel's war against the Palestinian terror group Hamas. Younger leftists have had more support for Hamas and Palestinians, who they believe are oppressed by Israel's secure borders. They do not appear to have concerns over the tight border Egypt maintains with the region, however.
In January, a USA Today/Suffolk University poll showed that Trump had a lead over Biden among voters under 35, with 37 percent of them supporting Trump compared to 33 percent supporting Biden.
Teen Vogue in January wrote that many voters in Gen Z may abstain from voting in the election altogether, saying that some would rather abstain from voting than vote for a candidate and system they "cannot support."
Citing a Harvard Kennedy School poll, the outlet wrote that 49 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 said they were going to vote in the 2024 election, down from 57 percent in 2020, an election in which young voters came out in droves for Biden.
In an attempt to woo young voters, the Biden campaign has taken to using TikTok. The app is banned on government devices and faces a potential ban in the US.
