The infamous NYC squatters who have been occupying a home in Queens reportedly removed themselves from the property on Wednesday after feeling the brunt of nationwide backlash.
Two of the three squatters were seen covering their faces with hoodies as they left the home located in Flushing, Queens. However, the third squatter claimed that he is a "legal" tenant and will reportedly stay at the property, according to the Daily Mail.
These squatters found themselves in the national spotlight after Adele Andaloro, 47, who owns the $1 million home bequeathed to her by her family, was arrested by NYPD for unlawful eviction after she had changed the locks in an attempt to prevent the squatters from re-entering the property.
According to NYC law, changing locks is prohibited if "tenants" have inhabited a building for more than 30 days.
Andaloro's arrest sparked mass outrage which resulted in New York residents arriving at the home as "vigilantes" earlier this week, attempting to remove them from the property. However, the gesture was unsuccessful.
Neighbors said that they have been living on edge since the squatters moved into the residence on Feb. 6. They claimed the unwelcomed occupants have been doing construction inside the property.
One neighbor explained to the Daily Mail that the community is very tight-knit, saying "We all know what they are up to, so we're all kind of pissed about it."
It's unclear how long the third squatter plans to stay. He reportedly wants his deposit back, according to the outlet. However, Andoloro claimed that none of them paid rent and they illegally entered the house that had been for sale.
